Learning Pedagogy

Learning at Tolani Institute of Management Studies, is not just through classroom sessions but is a mix of various methodologies which make a student not only conceptually and intellectually sound but also makes him/her confident about his/her standing in the corporate world.

TIMS actively follows Benjamin Bloom's taxonomy for categorizing level of abstraction of questions that commonly occur in educational settings:

Level 1 : Knowledge & Comprehension Level 2 : Application & Analysis Level3 : Synthesis & Evaluation

Keeping in mind the three levels given by Sir Bloom, following methodologies for teaching are used at the Institute to make the students acquire KSA - Knowledge, Skills and Attitude essential to be successful in the corporate world.

Classroom Sessions

Interactive sessions, where teaching and learning are two sided affairs, encourage students to participate with valuable faculty inputs. Group discussions and case studies are integral part of the learning process in the classroom as they are a vital component of management education.

COURSE PROJECTS
To help students in developing analytical and soft skills and get hands on understanding of various management concepts/ functions, students are put to work on different course projects of short duration.

INDUSTRIAL VISITS
Industrial tour and visits are organized to make the students conversant with the industry environment. This provides an opportunity for learning through observation.

SUMMER INTERSHIP
Students have to undergo 6-8 week of mandatory on the job training during May-June whereby they apply the knowledge gained during their Year I of PGDM. This is a crucial step towards exposure to the corporate world. The students work on an assigned project in an organization and submit a project report. They are also required to make a presentation about the project on selective basis. Summer Projects done by students in the past have won awards and prizes at State and National Level.

FINAL PROJECT
Students have to work on Final Project during the second year. It essentially involves library research.

EVALUATION
TIMS follows continuous evaluation system under which each student's performance is evaluated over entire semester for every course. Various components of evaluation system may include mid-semester, end-semester examinations, class participation, assignments, quizzes, presentations, course projects, course viva, etc.

The academic performance of a student is assessed in terms of grades obtained in different courses as well as a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) on a 13 point grading scale. For each component of a course, the concerned faculty awards letter grades. It indicates the relative performance of the students and mean following:

Grade Indicates
A Excellent
B Good
C Satisfactory
D Low Pass
F Fail

Detailed information on grading and evaluation is provided to the students when they join the institute.
