For the benefit of our new friends who are not yet familiar with the credentials of the institute, may I take this opportunity to say a few words about TIMS. Established in 1995, by Madan J.H. Kanal, the eldest daughter of Rev. Kaka Shri P.S. Tolani, TIMS is the first self-financed management institute in Gujarat with “A+” rating and is a pioneer in the field of quality management education in Kachchh region. TIMS is a center of excellence in value based management education. According to me, TIMS stands for Transparent, Intelligent, Meaningful and Specialized Learning rooted in the 3 D model of Discussion, Dialogue and Discourse, facilitating development of both left brain and right brain capabilities. TIMS with its state-of-art infrastructure, academic ambience, high standards of teaching, strong corporate connectivity and excellent placements, has an everlasting commitment to provide the right learning environment for developing the best future professionals with humane and pragmatic approach to bring the change in the society. I take this opportunity to give you a very brief round up of the milestones achieved by TIMS during its successful journey of one and a half decade.

Within just three years of its establishment, the institute moved from the rented premises to its own new building with state-of-art infrastructure. We have been striving to continuously improve our offerings and have been consistently reviewing our curriculum to meet the growing needs of the industry. TIMS has always remained on the forefront of introducing cutting edge courses. On privatization of the insurance sector in the year 2000, TIMS was the first management institute in Gujarat to offer a course on Insurance & Risk Management. The width and depth of the courses offered at TIMS are complemented by academia-industry interface imparting uniqueness to our PGDM students. TIMS has, therefore, emerged as the foremost Center of Excellence in management education in the country. This is evidenced by the constantly increasing rating graph of the institute, moving from Grade “B” in 2004 to Grade “A+” in 2009 by Business India survey and again to Grade “ A+” by BI Survey and “A++” by Just Careers in 2010.

The year 2008 was a landmark in the history of TIMS, when its intake was increased from 60 to 120 students with introduction of new specialization in Human Resource and inauguration of new Annexe, where we all are sitting now, with the spacious and well-equipped class-rooms, computer centre and auditorium.

The institute has witnessed a quantum leap in all its activities. The institute boasts of a vibrant and active student body enriching the campus life with a variety of professional, academic and cultural activities for the all round development of the students. Book reviews, Movie reviews, Business quizzes , ET sessions, Vaktaya, Mantavya, Industrial visits, Union Budget Discussions, SPARK- a National Level Summer Project Competition, AWAAZ – A social awareness program, CULFEST- annual day celebration with academic entertainment, Faculty Development Programs, In-house training program for industry, are some of the flagship activities and events of TIMS. Our library is one of the best and ever growing learning resources for the people of this region.

Again the year 2010, has been a landmark in the history of TIMS on six counts.

First, based on the Zero Base Review of our PGDM structure and evaluation, TIMS PGDM is offered on the Trimester basis, at par with international standards, from this year.

Second, in line with our Endeavour to develop high quality teachers, researchers and management thinkers, we have taken an initiative to publish our refereed management and research journal- QUEST. The first issue of Quest was released on 14th August, 2010 – the 15th Foundation Day of the institute, by the learned swami Shri Jitatmanandaji, Secretary, Ramakrishna Vivekanand Mission, Noida and the second issue is on the verge of release by end of this month.

Third, as a part of celebrating the 15 years of well-recognized existence of TIMS, a Blood donation camp, and a cultural program was organized on 14th August, 2010 – being 15th Foundation day of TIMS.

Fourth, the flagship event of TIMS – SPARK was organized this year for the first time on National Level.

Fifth, this new auditorium, equipped with high tech infrastructure having better ambience with 250 capacity, was inaugurated on 15th October , 2010 in the gracious presence of Mr. Shrikant Bhatia, Vice-chariman, National Council for Promotion of Sindhi language, our genius and inspiring leader madam Anjana Hazari, President , GCB and other dignitaries of GCB, Principal and faculty of TCAS, and of course entire TIMS family – the faculty, staff , alumni and students of TIMS .

Sixth, a National Conference on “ Emerging Trends in Management Practices “is being organized today and tomorrow.

We are privileged and proud to have with us our visionary and inspiring genius leader – Madam Anjana Hazari, who is presiding over this event. We live by moral and ethical values inculcated by Rev. Kaka Shri P.S. Tolani, a great visionary and humanitarian founder of this pious Vidhya Mandir campus.

The institute is fortunate to have a committed team of experienced and expert core as well as visiting faculty, who inculcate in the students conceptual foundations coupled with practical insights. Our Alumni are occupying the top positions in the corporate across the globe.

It is solely because of the unqualified support and co-operation of all the functionaries that we have been able to realize all these achievements, developments and many more leading towards our mission and vision. However, we can’t afford to sit on our laurels. TIMS will continue to strive to promote even higher standards in quality and value based management education. I am happy to announce that next year, we are committed to come out with the publication of first issue of TIMS in-house magazine – Samiksha by January 2011 and are also committed to organize an International Conference on Management in the month of December 2011.

Businesses around the globe are changing rapidly. Adapting to a continuously changing business world and operating in a global economy requires creativity, flexibility and discipline. We at TIMS are endlessly in this pursuit.

A surge of new technologies and innovations are altering the management practices. As an endeavour to provide networking opportunities to industry and academia, the institute is privileged to organize this national conference. It aims to converge emerging trends in diverse fields of management and facilitate evolution of strategies for ever –changing scenario.

The guest speakers and delegates from all over India are warmly welcomed to this conference offering them an excellent platform for interaction and deliberations. This conference will facilitate the sharing of research-based knowledge among the participants and provide them a professional networking opportunity.I trust that this conference would provide valuable insights to the participants to move towards a new vision of ‘holistic globalization’ and making this world a better place to live in. I am confident that each one of you will have valuable outcomes from the conference useful in keeping you abreast on the emerging trends in management practices. I am sure that we will be able to take away with us a wealth of new ideas conducive to our work and our academic life.

I would like to conclude by thanking all the conference participants and guest speakers for their forthcoming contributions and inputs.
