The Companies, where these short duration Diwali Projects were carried out, appreciated the efforts of Placement team, the students and also awarded Certificates to the deserving students. The students made presentation of the projects in presence of their classmates and discussed their learning on 2nd February 2007. “REJUVENATE” - PLACEMENT ACTIVITIES WEEK DECEMBER 3 -8, 2007 With the initiatives of the Placement team, December 3-8, 2007 were marked for grooming & development activities titled “REJUVENATE”. Extensive preparation activities were carried out for training the Second Year students for their campus recruitment exercise. The activities carried out were as follows :
These activities proved out to be very effective as immediately after they were carried out, many companies visited for campus interviews and the students demonstrated good performance in the written, GD as well as personal interview. “OVERALL PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM” HIRED CONSULTANTS' WORKSHOP With the initiatives of the Placement team considering the objective of developing our students with SKA Skills, knowledge and attitude for sustainable development in the over- competitive corporate world, consultants from “PLANET EDUCATION” are hired to conduct Overall Personality Development Program, a program designed specially for YEAR I as well as YEAR II students to improve their SKA. The program is spread over from October to February and covers the following topics: - Soft Skills Development Program 1. Stress Management Seminar/ Training for Professionals 1. How to pass a Psychometric Test? Selling/ Marketing Yourself 1. Job-hunting skills Skills Set 1. Resume writing skills Tests 1. Psychometric Test TIMS STUDENTS' CLUB - WEEKLY ACTIVITIES With the revival of TIMS' Students Club, weekly activities have spurt to remove “Jack's dullness and involve him to make him master of all”. The weekly activities are carried out as under: THURSDAYS: “Well Read…! & Chivalrous” -- Book Review Presentations by the First Year Students SEM II students make book review presentations as per the schedule. 10 minutes presentation that highlights the author, the concepts in the book and the lessons learnt from the book. Also, Thursday all the TIMS' students are perfectly chivalrous i.e. formally dressed and wellmannered. Till date, presentations have been made on book titles like: 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, The 48 Laws of Power, The Alchemist, The Ultimate Gift, Train to Pakistan, I am OK, You are OK, Freakonomics, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, The Blue Ocean Strategy, Who moved my Chesse? etc. to name a few. Prof. S.R. Lalwani co-ordinates the activity. FRIDAYS: “…Mantavya…” -- Express your views Discussions on various current issues in the Environment, presentation of views and building new viewpoints is the main objective with which this exercise is carried out. -- On December 28, 2007 - a highly intense discussion over “Money, morality, Individuals, Ethics Is integration amongst all these possible?” was done. Diverse viewpoints emerged during the discussion. -- On January 4, 2008 another round of discussion on “Ethics Can you survive in the corporate world holding to them?” was organized. -- On January 25, 2008 open house was held on “Inventing Inclusive Business Models” wherein students presented their views on innovative business ideas. Prof. S.R. Lalwani and Dr. Kinjal Ahir co-ordinate the activity. SATURDAYS : “Vaktavya” -- The Saturday Guest Lectures Series With the continued belief that management education is a mix of strong theoretical concepts and widely used practical principles, following guest lectures were arranged as a platform for the students to interact with the experts from academics as well as industry during September 2007 and January 2008.
Prof. S.R. Lalwani and Prof. S.S. Kapse co-ordinate the activity. CO CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES 1. PRAKALP 2007, National Summer Project Competition The following students participated at PRAKALP 2007 - National Summer Project Competition organized by IPS Academy, Indore.
The projects were highly appreciated by the judges of the competition and received special applause at Indore. 2. PRATIBHA 2007, National Summer Project Competition Ms. Komal Ruchandani & Ms. Abha Kalaiya participated in PRATIBHA 2007 National Summer Project Competition organized by VM Patel Institute of Management, Mehsana and presented their project “NPA Management at State Bank of India”. The judges highly appreciated the project as the students during their internship were able to recover Rs. 3 lacs (already classified as Non performing assets by the bank) from the customers of the bank. 3. CHANAKYA 2007, Management Simulation Competition Ms. Jyoti Ramchandani, Ms. Vanita Motiyani, Ms. Renu Balwani & Mr. Pratik Joshi participated in Chanakya, Mangement Simulation Games organized by All India Management Association at Pune. The students got an opportunity to step into the shoes of Managers and acting as CEO, COO and CFO, they were able to take decisions related to their hypothetical organization. 4. INTER-INSTITUTE INTERACTION The faculty and students of Narmad Institute of Management visited TIMS and had an interaction with our students on December 4, 2007 which resulted in sharing of knowledge, views and thoughts. CULFEST 2007 “CULTURE” is a learning that people inherit in them over the years and “FESTIVAL” is the medium through which one expresses or presents his or her culture. When both these words are joined, it becomes “CULFEST”, the perfect time when talent meets opportunity and excitement meets celebration. This Culfest 2007 charmingly spread the sunshine of love, unity & enthusiasm in the hearts & minds of every member of the TIMS family. This Culfest, the students and the faculty were divided into groups of five Pandavas The Yudhisthir, Bhim, Arjun, Nakul and Sahdev, all of them competing against each other in the field of cultural, academic and sports events. The festival was from 24th December to 29th December, 2007. Exciting days like Bappi Day, Baby's Day Out, Rangeela Day and Hawai Day was observed during this whole season. The sports & games included Chess, Table Tennis, Cricket, Volley-ball, 100mt Race, 200mt Race, Relay Race and Slow Biking; while the cultural programs comprised of Rangoli making, Singing and Dance competitions. Programs such as Kahani Mein Twist, Ad-Mad Show and Fast n Furious really filled the atmosphere with echoes of laughter and excitement. Academic events like Group Discussion, Debate, B-Quiz and 2-Min Manager were also scheduled therein. On 29th December, a FOOD FESTIVAL was also organized, wherein the breakfast and lunch was prepared and brought by the students of first year. One of the most beautiful components of this festival was “the Antakshri”, in which all the staff members of the TIMS family had participated. Both, the students and the faculty members enjoyed it to the maximum. A Grand Eve was organized on the final day of the Culfest which started at 5 pm on that day. This sensational evening was brightened up by the exceptional singing, dancing and other performances of the TIMS students. TIMS CULFEST 2007 was won by the Yudhisthir group which did remarkably well in most of the events. It was closely followed by Sahdev at the second place & Arjuna group at the third position. CRITICAL ANALYSIS AND OBSERVATION: The Competition A Competition was organized with the objective of equipping the management students to put in their compete concentration in one place at one time and critically observe and analyze what is happening around them. The motto being “Look beyond what you see”, the movie “The Da Vinci Code” was shown to the students of First Year and they were asked to prepare a review/ write up or a critical appreciation of the same. No wonder that all the participants gave their minute observations and all 60 deserved to be awarded. Best 5 write ups were selected as:

Bhambhani delivered a radio talk on “Importance of Management Education” in Sindhi on All India Radio Bhuj which was broadcasted on November 4, 2007 at 5:45 p.m. He highlighted the pervasiveness of management in every field of business, commerce and even personal life and encouraged the prospects to join for a management degree. “TIMS NI RAMJAT” “Garba TIMS NI RAMJAT” was organized by the students on October 26, 2007 wherein the colorful and charming aura created a spirit of celebration, a memory to last forever! SWAMI VIVEKANANDA - 145TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS On this special occasion of 145th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, TIMS along with Sri Ramkrishna Seva Kendra celebrated the birthday of this Titan by conducting Group Discussion on the topics : 1) Swami Vivekananda Prophet of Indian Nationalism. 33 students from various colleges of Kachchh participated in the competition. The winners were Ms. Shweta Kewlani, Ms. Deepali Thakker and Ms. Nisha Prajapati adjudged as first, second and third respectively, all three being students of Tolani Arts and Science College. The judges for the competition were Prof. A.J. Bhambhani Director TIMS, Ms. Bharti Joshi Principal, Mata Lachmi Rotary Trust School and Prof. Suresh Lalwani Lecturer TIMS. Didi Anjana Hazari, Shri B.G. Hazari and Prof. H.K. Kripalani blessed the occasion with their kind presence. INDUSTRIAL VISIT SEM II students visited Suzlon Energy Ltd., Paddhar on 6th January, 2008, Sunday, as their annual industrial visit. This unit produces the blades of different sizes for the windmills. Blades are one of the three ingredients of windmills, others being the turbine and the base. Students were exposed to various facets of the unit like production, HR, administration, financial and marketing divisions. All of the 60 students were accompanied by Prof T. Pujara, Prof. S Trada and Dr. Kinjal Ahir. Later students also prepared a report of the same in groups of four wherein they were evaluated and assessed. SPORTS ACTIVITES This year, TIMS actively participated in all the following events of “Tolani Inter-Collegiate Tournaments” under the co-ordination of Prof. Sandeep Trada: - 1. Chess Mr. Alpesh Kotadiya participated 3. Volleyball The team of Amit Sharma, Nitin Naik, Dipjay Zankat, Sagar Thakker, Rajesh Mangwani, Manoj Nair and Krishna prem Thakker participated 4. Cricket The team of Rajesh Mangwani, Nitin Naik, Dipjay Zankat, Parikshit Asher, Niraj Ramnani, Amit Sharma, Azhar Baig, Manoj Nair, Sagar Thakker, Vishal, Kandarp Patel, Sanjay Soni, Mehul Kansagra and Ankit Shah reached the Semi Finals. TIMS BIRTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION The Thirteenth birthday of TIMS was celebrated in the campus on 14th August 2007 whereby the students' presented various cultural activities like skit, song, dance, mono- acting, and cake ceremony. Didi Anjana Hazari, Shri B.G. Hazari and Prof. H.K. Kripalani blessed the occasion with their kind presence. TIMS FACULTY RESEARCH SEMINARS Prof. T.V. Pujara presented the research paper “Relationship between user satisfaction and user characteristics in the context of IT Application” on 28th September 2007. CONFERENCES ATTENDED BY TIMS FACULTY 1. Prof. P.S. Ganguly attended the “Retail Summit - 2007” organized by CII, Ahmedabad at IIM A on September 12, 2007. 2. Prof. S.R. Lalwani attended the 6th Annual HR Conference on “Transforming HR: Creating Value through People” on October 27, 2007 organized by Ahmedabad Management Association. RESEARCH PAPER PUBLICATION: Mr. Suresh L. Lalwani published a paper titled “TQM in Academic Library” in the Journal of Library and Information Technology, June 2007 issue. OTHER NEWS: Prof. Ankita Ramchandani was invited by Dada Dukhayal College of Education to assist in making a documentary on life of Dada Dukhayal during the International Conference organized by them. Mr. Neeraj Joshi, Mr. Neerav Thacker, Mr. Krishna Prem Thakker and Ms. Chanda Poptani, all SEM IV students contributed their efforts in making of this documentary. Mr. Suresh L. Lalwani has successfully registered for his Ph.D. with KSKV Kachchh University and has submitted his synopsis on “Information Seeking Behaviour of Faculty of Management in Gujarat”
