Infrastructure Development : Total Station, a digital optical equipment in the field of Civil Engineering purchased under MODROB Scheme, has been fully installed at the Survey Lab (Civil Department) and an on-spot training program has been planned for the staff. Mr. A.B. Rathod (LCE) prepared the proposal for the scheme. Industry Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC) - Programs and Activities IN-HOUSE PROGRAM ON ISO 9001:2000 FOR KANDLA PORT TRUST An in-house training module by IIPC on Quality Management Systems - ISO 9001:2000 is in progress for 1800 members of Kandla Port Trust staff. Madam Anjana Hazari inaugurated the program. KPT Chairman Mr. Janardan Rao, Dy Chairman Mr. Manoranjan Kumar, Mr. B.G. Hazari and Prof. H. K. Kripalani were present on the occasion. The program is being conducted by expert faculty Mr. N G Hiranandani, HoD (MECH) & Chief Coordinator IIPC, and Mr. J. M Sitapara, Faculty in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Hiranandani and Mr. Sitapara are the Lead Auditors for ISO 9000 Quality Management System. The program is co-ordinated by Ms. Rajshri Dabke of KPT who also anchored the inauguration of the program. As a part of this in-house module, a five-day training program on Quality Management System Internal Auditors for KPT was held from 30 July 2007 to 3 August 2007. 30 selected participants from all the departments of KPT attended the program which has enabled them to carry out internal quality audit. Program on 5-S Housekeeping for final year students A training program on 5-S Housekeeping for the final year DME students was conducted in collaboration with ISTE Student Chapter. The program was inaugurated by Prin. L H Daryani. The faculty for the program were Mr. N G Hiranandani, HOD(MECH) & Chief Coordinator IIPC, and Mr. T V Pujara from TIMS. Release of the 5th Issue of TFGP Placement Brochure : The 5th issue of the TFGP Placement Brochure, brought out by IIPC, was released by Mr. Pradeep Gohil (Sr. Vice President, Excel Group of Companies, Bhavnagar) on 26 October 2007. Activities Mocktest Mock written test was conducted on 24 August 2007 for the final year students to prepare for L & T interview which was held on 25 August 2007 at C.U.SHAH College, Surendranagar. 80 students had participated in the test and 4 Mehanical students were short listed for personal interview. The program was co-ordinated by Mr. H T Gianchandani, Mr. K K Chawda, Mr. S P Varandani - Cordinators for Mechanical, Electrical & Civil Departments respectively. ISTE students Chapter of TFGP awarded the first and second prizes. Industrial visits 1. To M/S KLAUS WARREN, led by Mr. J M Sitapara, Mr. H N Harjani and Mr. G. G. Kripalani (Instructor) 2. Consultancy for Staff Selection : As a part of Industry Institute Interaction Program, M/S Man Industries-Anjar invited IIPC to be on interview panel for the recruitment of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, Engineering Managers, Electricians, Wire-man and A. C. Mechanics. The interviews were held in hotel mid-town, Adipur, on 19 August 2007. The second stage interviews were conducted at Ahmedabad on 26 August 2007. Mr. N G Hiranandani and Mr. D J Chellani were the members of selection committee for Mechanical and Electrical departments respectively. Meeting with Industry Commissioner : To discuss about new academic courses and the needbased training programs for industry personnel, the meeting was initiated by Ms. Gauri Kumar, Industry Commissioner and Mr. Paneervel, Secretary of Higher Education, Government of Gujarat. The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary Mr. Rajgopalan, the Collector of Kachchh and the General Manager, DIC, Bhuj. The following members represented the Institute in various meetings conducted by the Secretary of Industrial Development: 1. Prin. L H Daryani and Mr. N G Hiranandani attended meetings at Bhuj and Mundra. 2. Mr. N G Hiranandani and Mr. Vinesh Maheshwari (LME, Co-ordinator, IIPC) attended meetings at Bhuj. Representatives from industry and principals of colleges and I.T.I.s in the District participated in the meetings. Guest Lectures : To get the first hand Information on the newly introduced technology and the best industrial practices, the following guest lectures were arranged :
TOLANI FOUNDATION COMMUNITY PROJECT As the Central Government decided to wind up all the Community Polytechnic Wings throughout India, the community wing at TFGP started under the direct assistance from the MHRD (Govt. of India) in 1996 had to discontinue its activities. However, Mrs. Anjana Hazari, President, GCB revived the wing as Tolani Foundation Community Project with the generous help from Tolani Foundation. After the revival, the following programs / activities have been conducted : An eye Camp was organized at Adipur in collaboration with Ram Krishna Seva Trust. 250 patients were given free medicines and 48 patients were admitted at Tolani Eye Hospital for operations. Dr. Harsh Prajapati and Dr. Margi Chhaya gave their valuable services. A Polio Dose Camp was held in collaboration with Rotary Club-Anjar. Backward areas of Anjar like Shekh Timba and Vagri Vas benefited from the camp. 400 children were given Polio Dose. An Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp for rural areas was arranged at Adipur in collaboration with Nodal Centre for Entrepreneurship and Management Development (NCEMD). 75 trainees from villages like Antarjal, Khambhra and Sapeda were motivated in the camp held on 3 November 2007. Mr. S.V. Patel and Ms. Bharti Goswami addressed the trainees and informed them about practical issues including finance and loans. Solar Cooker Distribution Program was arranged in collaboration with Gujarat Energy Development Agency, Gandhinagar. 80 Solar Cookers were distributed. A technical Support Service Camp was organised at Sapeda. 36 villages took the benefit of this camp. Master craftsman C.P. Joshi gave his services for repairing household electric appliances. NODAL CENTRE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT (NCEMD) Programs / Activities Conducted
Two Internet training programs (Jointly with ISTE Students Chapter) were held for the polytechnic students from 28 July to 28 August 2007 and 11 October to 20 October 2007 respectively. Total 41 students participated in the programs. Mr. S. R. Sadarangani from TFGP and Mr. Chirantan Dave (Director, Phoenix Education Pvt. Ltd., Anjar) were the faculty for both the programs. The valedictory function was held on 22 October 2007 in the presence of Mr. H. P. Kalyani and Mr. K. Venkateshwarlu. Mr. S. R. Sadarangani was the coordinator for both the programs. Three Skill Development programs for Supervisors (Civil Engineering) were conducted at PMC Ltd.-Mundra by Nodal Centre and Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics Departments of Tolani. F. G. Polytechnic. Mr. V. R. Mehta coordinated all the programs. The above training programs were conducted under the leadership of Principal & Project Coordinator L. H. Daryani, and Mr. K. Venkateshwarlu, Project Officer. Other Activities (1) A series of two lectures on “Paper Presentation: An Overview” was organized to motivate students for writing papers on 9th and 22nd October, 2007. Dr. Kinjal Ahir and Mr. Manoj Chhaya were the speakers. (2) A lecture on Wires & Cables by Mr. Sachin Tiwari (M/s. R. R. Cables) was organised for final year DEE students on 18 August 2007. Mr. D J Chellani coordinated this program. Mr Tiwari gave a power-point presentation on the subject and demonstrated the samples of latest wires, cables and switches. (3) ISTE students Chapter, in association with the Weights and Measures Department, arranged a lecture on Consumer Awareness at Prabhu Darshan on 30 August 2007. More than 300 members of the Chapter, along with the faculty members, were present. A question-answer session was also conducted by the speakers. (4) Mr. D J Chellani took the final year DEE students on a site visit to see the concealed wiring of a residential bungalow and service lines on 24 October 2007. (5) An Essay Competition on “Nirmal Gandhidham” was organized in August 2007. ISTE student chapter of TFGP awarded the first two prizes. (6) A Quiz Competition for TFGP students was organised at Prabhu Darshan Auditorium on 12 September 2007. 12 students were selected for participation. The selection was based on the result of a GK written test. The competition was planned and managed by ISTE Student Chapter of TFGP. A Patriotic Song and Dance Competition by ISTE Students Chapter was also organized at Prabhu Darshan on 12 September 2007. (7) ISTE Students Chapter arranged “Elect. House Hold Appliance Repairs & Maintenance” Program in association with N.C.E.M.D. The program was from 3-8 August 2007. (8) The Members of ISTE Students Chapter arranged a special movie show of the film Chak-De-India to inculcate patriotism in students. The show was organised at subsidized rates under the guidance of S. P. Varandani on 26 Aug 2007 at Vinay Cinema, Adipur. Students from all the disciplines joined the show. All activities conducted by the ISTE student Chapter of TFGP were guided by Mr. H.P. Kalyani, Faculty Advisor for the Chapter. Achievement - Students Khalsa Kawaljeet D. and Pillai Vipin G. were awarded a consolation prize for their paper "Alternate Fuels for Protecting Environment", presented at a National level event BEACON 2K8. The eventwasheld at Manikapallam (Dist. Namakal) on 31st January, 2008. Miscellaneous Birth Celebrations Mrs. Beena George Kutty (Lecturer in CACD & DM) has been blessed with a baby girl, Vidya, on 5 September 2007. Mrs. Bhavisha Jadeja (Lab Asst.) has been blessed with a baby boy, Rudra, on 15 September 2007. Mr. Ravi Gurnani (Lecturer in Civil Engg.) and Mrs. Honey Gurnani (Lecturer in Computer Engg.) have been blessed with a baby girl, Kaamya, on 31 October 2007. Mr. Chintan Bhatt (Lecturer in Civil Engg.) has been blessed with a baby girl, Dwija, on 20 November 2007. Mrs. Awa Trivedi (Lecturer in Home Science) has been blessed with a baby girl, Aarshia, on 18 January 2008. Wedding Bells Mr. Yatrik Raja (LME) got married to Ms. Shital Kotecha on 22 July 2007. Asmita, the daughter of Mr. K. Venkateswarlu (HoD, App. Mechanics), wedded Mr. Niraj Borwal on 25 November 2007. Mr. Yogesh Changrani, the son of Mr. H.T. Changrani (LEE) got married to Ms. Spana Haribhai Chawla (Gandhidham) on 20 Jan 2008. Prizes and Admissions Nikunj and Nishant, twin sons of Mr. S.P. Varandani (Lecturer in App. Mechanics), were awarded the first prize in “Contrive” (software) in a national level technical carnival COGNIZANCE, held at Charotar Institute of Technology, Changa (Anand) on 5, 6 October 2007. Prakash Rathod, the son of Mr. A.B. Rathod (LCE), got admission in the Second Year B.E. (Civil) at Vidya Pratishthan College of Engineering (Pune University), Baramati Pune. He passed his diploma from TFGP last year as a DLM student. Yogesh Tanwani, the son of Mr. R. S. Tanwani (LME), got admission in the second year B.E. (Civil) at Sinhgadh Institute of Engineering, Pune. He too passed his diploma in DLM from TFGP. Manish Chawda, the son of Mr. K. K. Chawda (LEE), got admission in Diploma in Electrical Engg. at TFGP. Amit Chellani, the son of Mr. D. J. Chellani (LEE), got admission in Diploma in Computer Engg. at TFGP. Vishal Karpuram, the son of Mr. K. Venkateshwarlu (LAM), secured admission to Diploma in Civil Engineering at TFGP. Sad Demise Mr. Ram (Ramesh) Changrani (53), the father of Ms. Roshni Changrani (Lecturer in Computer Engg.) passed away on 5 December 2007. He was severely injured in an unfortunate road accident that took place on Tagore Road (Gandhidham) on 25 November 2007. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
